You can easily exercise your right of withdrawal online via the “Cancel Contract ” page on our website.

Tea Quality & Storage

What is the shelf life of tea?

When stored properly, tea has a surprisingly long shelf life. Black tea will retain its aroma for 2–3 years without any problems if stored correctly; green tea for about 1–2 years; and herbal and fruit teas for at least 1 year. You’ll find a specific best-by date on each of our packages.

How do I store tea properly so it stays fresh for a long time?

Tea should be stored in a dark, dry, cool place and kept in an airtight container. It’s best to transfer the tea to a tin or a sealable glass jar immediately after opening it and store it away from strongly scented foods such as coffee or spices. This will help preserve its delicate aroma for a long time.

Why are there such big price differences among teas?

The price of tea depends on many factors: growing region, harvest year, leaf grade, picking time, and processing. A delicately hand-picked first-flush Darjeeling from a high-altitude garden therefore costs significantly more than a machine-harvested Assam Broken. We carry only hand-picked teas—ranging from reliable everyday teas to rare premium varieties.

Preparation & Enjoyment

What would you recommend to someone new to green tea?

To get started, we recommend mild, sweet, and nutty varieties such as Japanese Sencha or Chinese Chun Mee. Make sure the water temperature is around 70–75 °C and steep for a short time—1.5–2 minutes—so the green tea tastes pleasantly mild instead of bitter. If you’re unsure, feel free to visit our flagship store in Salzburg, where we’ll be happy to guide you through our selection of different varieties.

Why does my tea taste bitter?

Bitterness is usually caused by water that’s too hot or by letting the tea steep for too long. Green tea should be brewed at 70–80 °C and steeped for no more than 2 minutes; black tea can be brewed with boiling water and steeped for 3–5 minutes. Water quality also plays a role—water with high mineral content can mask delicate flavors. Try using filtered water and sticking to the exact steeping time.

Can I still sleep after drinking black tea or green tea in the evening?

That depends on your personal sensitivity to caffeine. Here’s a tip: If you pour out the first brief infusion (about 30 seconds) and drink only the second infusion, the caffeine content is significantly reduced. Alternatively, our herbal and fruit teas, as well as decaffeinated rooibos, are especially good choices in the evening.
