China black tea Lapsang Souchong
A tea with a strong, smoky taste and reddish cup color.
Strong, large-leafed black tea is smoked in the smoke of smouldering pine roots or over burning, resin-rich spruce wood, roasted in a pan, rolled and oxidized before being smoked again in bamboo baskets over pine or spruce wood. This gives Lapsang Souchong black tea the strong smoky flavor that is characteristic of this type of tea, which is reminiscent of a campfire and overlays the actual taste of the tea.
China black tea Lapsang Souchong is either drunk on its own or added to other teas to give them a spicy smoky note.
This type of tea is also sometimes used in cooking as a flavoring agent.
